Thankful Thursday has been a bright spot in my weeks. It’s a chance to stop for a second and realize just how blessed we really are.
As I was procrastinating getting up this morning because I was convinced that laying in bed for “a few more minutes” perusing the Book of Face would get rid of the headache I woke up with, {cause that always works…} I stumbled on my dear friend Decki’s offering to the blog gods.
I know I often suggest you jump ship from my page over to someone else’s… (and I know y’all generally don’t actually do that according to the analytics of the google…) I can’t suggest strongly enough that you actually DO IT. Go read Decki’s Unexpected Thankful Thursday.
As for me… how can I compete with that? Luckily, Decki and I haven’t ever felt the need to compete against each other. Together on the same team? Absolutely but against each other? Nah. Not our style.
Well, maybe her style… she’s hella competitive.
But I digress.
Today’s Thankful Thursday is about the things we are thankful for that may be a bit unexpected.
Like Sinus infections. Yes, I’m still harping on it. No I’m not 100% better yet but the snot faucet runs clear so the antibiotics are doing their thing. WHY would I be thankful for getting sick? Because for a few days anyway, it forced me to slow down and rest. It forced me to stop running around like a chicken with my head cut off and just sleep. No way would that have happened without me getting sick would could have likely caused more frustration and the eventual “giving up” on everything. It would have led me to the dark hole where I hide from everything and everyone. In a way, a sinus infection saved me from myself. It also afforded me a lot of time to think… to evaluate where I’m at and where I want to be.
I’m thankful for 6:00am swim practices for the giant. Yes, this means I’m gonna have to get up hella early a few times in order to get him there… but that also means I have a built in reason to hit the gym in the morning before work on those days. Hauling your kid to early morning practice is way better than a standard alarm clock. There’s no snooze button for that.
I’m thankful for sore muscles. Just getting back to the gym after a far-too-long hiatus and everything is sore. Everything hurts. Not in a I-pushed-too-hard-and-injured-myself way… more like that feeling when you’ve been sitting on your foot too long and you get the pins and needles while it wakes up again. Not that I feel pins and needles everywhere – that might be a sign of something seriously wrong – more that my muscles are waking up and screaming at me for neglecting them too long.
I’m thankful for my dear friend and co-worker who is leaving me tomorrow. Oh sure, I’m sad for me and the company is losing a tremendous asset, but the reality is that the new job she’s taking is one that will challenge and support her financially, professionally, and personally. And that my friends, is what I hope for everyone. To find that balance of support that you desire.
I have much to be thankful for and will find new ways to appreciate everything I can. What unexpected things are you thankful for today?

See and I am thankful that we have afternoon swim practice because it gives me an extra chance to hit the gym in the afternoon when the day gets away from me. I loves you!
Why do you keep throwing dust in my eyes?!
On a serious note, thank you so much! I would never want to compete with you, either, but you’ll always be on any team I get a say in!
Congrats on getting back to the gym. I love the feeling of sore-in-a-good-way muscles.
I don’t mean to keep throwing dust in your eyes… But I also believe in telling people they matter. And you matter to me.
