Start the new year organized and clean

Pinned ImageI wrote about how I wanted to start 2012 off with a clean and organized home and made a complete list…. but it was too long to include in my original post so I put it here.  Also, I anticipate coming back to check off these items daily because there is a certain amount of pleasure derived from marking things off your To-Do List…

Monday – 12/12/11

Foyer –

  • Dust light fixture.
  • Wash walls and trim
  • Wash door, knobs and switch plates.
  • Empty out coat closet.
  • Sort items as you return them to the closet.
  • Store out of season items, donate unneeded items.
  • Sweep and scrub floors.

Laundry

 Tuesday – 12/13/11

Living Room –

  • Vacuum sofa – the sofa is slip-covered and I washed it and the pillows fairly recently so a quick vacuum should be all that’s needed here
  • Dust shelves, furniture and decor.
  • Clean lamps and lampshades.
  • Clean television screen.
  • Carefully dust electronics.
  • Sort through music and DVD collections.
    • Purge things that no longer suit my interests.
    • Organize what is left
  • Wash switch plates.
  • Wash walls and trim.
  • Wash floor vent covers.
  • Clean floors.
  • Clean Ceiling Corners
  • Cleaning Sliding Glass door

 Wednesday – 12/14/11

Kids Bath –

  • Empty all cabinets and vanity.
    • Wash inside, replace items neatly.
    • Discard expired medications and cosmetics.
    • Wash outside of cabinets and vanities
  • Clean tub. & drain.
  • Clean toilet, inside and out.  Remove seat and clean around seat bolts.
  • Clean sink and drain.
  • Shine faucets.
  • Clean mirror
  • Dust light fixtures.
  • Wash switch plates.
  • Wash walls and trim.
  • Wash doors and door knobs.
  • Wash vent covers.
  • Sweep and wash floors.

Thursday – 12/15/11

Kitchen – Organize

  • Clean and organize pantry.  Check food expiry dates
  • Clean microwave.
  • Clean crumbs out of toaster.
  • Clean and descale kettle.
  • Wipe down any other counter appliances
  • Organize & clean counters and back splash.
  • Wash and shine sink.  Shine faucet. Clean drain.
  • Wash windows and window sills.
  • For each cabinet or drawer:
    • Remove items
    • wipe out drawer
    • place items back neatly.
    • Wash cabinet doors and knobs

Friday – 12/16/11

My Bath –

  • Empty all cabinets and vanity.
    • Wash inside, replace items neatly.

    • Wash outside of cabinets and vanities
  • Clean tub. & drain.

 Saturday/Sunday (Yes, this will take BOTH days) 12/17/11-12/18/11

Bedroom

  • Dust furniture.
  • For each drawer
    • remove items
    • wash drawer
    • place items back neatly
    • Donate Items you no longer need.
  • Remove everything from closets
    • Re-do Closet Organization System
    • Sort clothes – donate what I no longer wear
    • Wash/paint closet walls.
    • Put everything back neatly.
  • Move Bed.
    • Sort and put away anything that was under bed.
    • Sweep or vacuum under bed.
    • Organize under-bed storage
    • Donate/get rid of items no longer needed
    • Put bed back.
    • Flip mattress & Vacuum both sides.
    • Launder bedding and curtains.
  • Dust light & fan
    • Clean lamp shades
  • Wash windows and window sills
  • Wash switch plates.  Wash walls and trim.
  • Wash mirrors or dust art.
  • Wash doors and doorknobs.
  • Wash vent covers.
  • Vacuum floor
  • Vanity
    • Dust
    • Empty drawers
    • Sort items
    • Put back in neatly

    Laundry

    Monday – 12/19/11

    Dining Room/ Credenza

    • Wipe down table and chairs.
    • Dust any displayed china or serving dishes.
    • Launder table linens.
    • Wash windows and window sills.  Take out and wash window screens.
    • Wash switch plates
    • Wash walls and trim.
    • Wash doors and door knobs
    • Wash floor registers and other vent covers.
    • Clean floors.
    • Organize Credenza
      • Sort Paperwork
      • Store old Documents in files
      • Organize Magazines, cookbooks, and software currently being stored there

     

    Tuesday 12/20/11

    Kitchen – Clean

    • Wash and sanitize cutting boards
    • Clean oven.
    • Clean stove top
    • Clean and organize fridge and freezer- Including the TOP of the fridge and the artwork on the front/sides
    • Clean under fridge and stove.
    • Vacuum refrigerator coils.
    • Wash switch plates.
    • Wash walls and trim.
    • Wash doors and door knobs.
    • Wash floor registers and other vent covers
    • Sweep and wash floor.

    Wednesday 12/21/11

    Bedroom Carpets – Stain Removal- You know, those little stains that appear to come out of NOWHERE… yeah… not a fan of my almost-white carpet for this very reason.

     Thursday 12/22/11

    Hallway/Closet

    • Paint touch up
    • Wash doors & Knobs
    • Wash Vent cover
    • Clean/Organize Hall Closet
      • Remove everything from the closet
      • Add shelving (necessity)
      • Donate items no longer needed
      • Put everything back in neatly
You’ll notice ONE area not currently on my list… The garage… and truth be told, it’s WAYYYYYY too scary to tackle this year… I’m saving THAT ONE for January… and may even take the whole month LOL

  1. Wow you have a good plan here, and looks like you have a lot to get through glad to see you will be finished before Chirstmas so you can have a couple of days off to rest.

  2. Holy shnikeys!!!!! I know you can do it though. If anyone can do it, you can.

    Great list by the way. Maybe have to steal it for Spring Cleaning next year.
