Sing a love song to yourself

Who says that love songs have to be written to be dedicated, sung to and shared with someone of the romantic persuasion?  Seriously.  Lately, I’ve discovered a few songs that I’m singing to ME.  (and not because I don’t have anyone else singing me cheesy ballads)

Music – Among other things creative – feeds my soul.  and when I’m down or stuck in a funk or have allowed someone to dictate my foul mood, a good song can make all the difference in the world.

That’s not to say that I’m not STILL a hopeless romantic.  Of Course I want to find the euphoria associated with love – that feeling of complete abandon that ignores logic and reason and tells you it’s ok to jump without a parachute.  That feeling of butterflies when your phone chimes and their name lights up your screen.  The anticipation that builds when you know you have plans with them a few days from now and you can’t wait for time to fly… or when you are with them and you pray that time will slow down so you can enjoy just a few more moments with them.  Of course I want to find that special someone that you can explore the deep dark recesses of your brain with and feel completely safe.  I want the hearts and flowers and butterflies and everything that Hollywood and Disney have made me believe in…

Of course I still want a guy to see me as worthy and fight for my attention and would be head over heels if the Say Anything scene actually happened in real life… you know where the guy realizes he loves the girl enough to make a complete fool out of himself and when he can’t find the words he finds a song that expresses what he can’t so he stands there, holding a big ol boombox over his head blasting it so that she will notice him… side bar – does anyone even still HAVE the big ol boom boxes anyway?  I mean a set of killer iPod speakers may not have the same effect… or will it?

But I digress.  Yes, I still want those things because I am a hopeless romantic.  I always have been and always will be.  BUT!!! (and this is really my point here people) Who says I have to wait for “some guy” to sing me a love song?  Exactly.

So, here are some of my favorites that I’m singing to myself at the moment… (well, not at this EXACT moment because I’m at work (shhhh don’t tell) and THAT would be awkward but when I get in my car, they will be fired up on the iPhone) and how they relate to ME instead of someone I haven’t met yet… because, if you haven’t noticed… it’s always all about me.

Rascal Flatts – I Won’t Let Go

This song to me is of course about having someone who will stand by your side no matter what… and not giving up when the storm comes. And I’m singing it to remind myself that even when I struggle, my inner strength will always be there. Period

Jason Mraz – I Won’t Give Up

kinda along the same lines as above… because I won’t give up on myself… ever. I love this part –
“And when you’re needing your space
To do some navigating
I’ll be here patiently waiting
To see what you find”
Because we sometimes have to stray from our path and our inner voice… our inner goddess is always waiting for us to return. Love the idea of that.

Garrett Hedlund and Leighton Meester – Give into Me (from the movie Country Strong)

I sing this one over and over reminding myself to be completely in the moment no matter what… and allow whatever I’m feeling at the moment about whatever situation I’m in to be perfectly correct and okay.

So those are three and I could go on all stinkin day long here but I want to hear from you – what are your favorite love songs you are singing to YOURSELF?
