Pre-Coffee decisions are rarely a good thing

After working a 12 hour day yesterday, I was EXHAUSTED.  I went home, ate dinner, ran through some of the Christmas wish list with mom and settled in to do a bit of crochet while I watched some TV.

I felt like it was well past midnight when I could barely keep my eyes open and was shocked when I looked at the clock and it was only 11:30… still, I listened to my body and went to sleep… which meant I woke up earlier than normal this morning.

I started my day much like any other day….

Checking my Facebook notifications… checking my email… Playing my turns on various “with friends” types of games, and then went back to perusing the book of face.  That’s when “brilliance” struck and I decided I should re-evaluate the 151 apps I have on my phone and delete the ones I really don’t use… once that was complete, I decided that now would be a great time to finally get around to the iOS 8.1 update and figured my phone could do it’s thing while I fed the cats, let the dogs out and got myself ready for the day.

I should have stopped while I was ahead…

or at least made coffee first…

Instead, as I was about to head out for the day, I tried to power on my phone and saw this…

itunes

well Fuck.

I know I use my phone a lot… a WHOLE LOT.  I’ve joked about needing a 12 step program for my iPhone addiction… but what you never really appreciate is just how many things I use my phone for…

When I saw the need to connect to iTunes, I knew I didn’t have that kind of time this morning so figured I’d update it at work.

First up though, I realized that part of my morning routine is to check the weather app to see how to dress… couldn’t do that…

I got in my car and remembered that I needed gas last night but was tired so opted to drive home on fumes and planned to stop for gas this morning… I usually check my Gas Buddy app to see where the best priced gas is… couldn’t do that…

I enjoy listening to the JB & Sandy Morning show most mornings on The Fringe 105.3… except there’s a bit of radio crossover where I live so I generally use the app for that instead of the radio… couldn’t do that.

JB & Sandy also had a free phones topic I could have called in for and almost did… until I realized I couldn’t do that either…

Got to my Starbucks for my morning java and instinctively reached for my phone to pay… you guessed it, couldn’t do that… (now, as a Starbucks Gold card member, I have a physical card that I was able to locate so I still get my stars but that’s not really the point here)

While sitting in the FOREVER line at the Bux, that’s usually a time when I can text with Evin or check out a laugh or two on Reddit… the line seemed to take longer than normal because I couldn’t do that.

Now I’m sitting at work and waiting for the update to download and it too is taking FOREVER… I feel naked without my phone…

Truth is, there are probably no notifications or texts that require my attention.  No one likely NEEDS me this morning but it’s the not knowing that fuels my crazy (in all things – not just my iPhone)… but I also realized just how spoiled I am with everything at my fingertips… except when, like today, it’s not.

I know… First world problems.

  1. I killed my phone a couple months ago, and those 2 days without were torture! Between my laptop, tablet, phone, etc, I really feel like we need to unplug sometimes. But that day is not today!
