#Mamavation Monday – Week 2

This week was … ok.  It wasn’t the best week but wasn’t the worst either.  I didn’t get as many of my p90x workouts in because school has started and I’m readjusting my schedule accordingly.

I’m sticking with my nutrition plan provided to me during my reign as a Mamavation Mom and adding in more lean protein on the days that I feel I need it.  I’m listening to my body more and that makes me feel like the changes I’m making are ones that will stick with me.

No change on the scale this week, but honestly, I’m happy with that!

2011 should be called the year of the FIBER because this year I’m making a conscious effort to ensure that I get enough fiber every day.  It helps to start my day with something fiberiffic and the EASIEST way for this busy mom to get her fiber in?  I keep a couple of boxes of Fiber Plus Bars at my desk at work.  This means that even if I **gasp** skip breakfast, as soon as I get to the office I have a Fiber Plus bar to start my day with.  That one delicious bar provides me with 9gms of fiber which means I’m getting a third of my fiber first thing.

Adding in other sources of fiber from that point aren’t that hard – an apple with almond butter as an afternoon snack gives me another 5-6 gms of fiber in the afternoon, Brussel Sprouts at dinner give me another 3grams.  Plus, add in the other whole grains and beans consumed and it adds up quick!

How do I know I’m getting in enough fiber?  I use www.myfitnesspal.com to track my food from either my computer or my phone.  I set up the fiber goal just as I would my calories, protein, or fat goals and I have a visual reminder of where I am and where I need to be.

Why is fiber so important?  For me, if I get in my fiber AND my water, I feel full longer which means that I don’t feel the urge to randomly snack as often.  This helps me to only eat consciously instead of mindless eating and that helps me lose weight without feeling deprived!  Plus, the fiber plus bars are GOOD so it doesn’t feel like I’m eating bark, but rather feels like I’m indulging.  My favorite flavor is the chocolate chip because it is also perfect for an afternoon snack and is considerably better for me than a candy bar.  Even my kids ask me to pack them in their lunches as a treat.  For me, it’s a win/win!

If adding fiber is a new thing for you though – start adding it SLOWLY – just trust me on this 🙂

ALSO – if you haven’t already, don’t forget to enter my giveaway for a FREE Bondi Band!  3 winners will be selected on Feb 1st.  Seriously – you NEED one of these!

I’m writing this post as an entry to a blogging carnival sponsored by Fiber Plus. I will be receiving free product in return

  7. Do you have a good recipe for brussel sprouts? I’ve tried to make them twice (once steamed in the microwave and once roasted) and my family still hates them.

I really want to love them. Any suggestions?

I’m excited to hear more about how it goes with P90x. I hear so much about it but have put off buying it…just yet. 🙂
