#Mamavation Monday – 9/20/2010 – Week 3

This is the point in my previous attempts to lose weight where, in the past, I have given up.  Now, before you guys worry – please notice I said IN THE PAST.

The scale is not moving.  3 weeks at the same weight even though I feel like I’m doing everything right.  It is this frustration that has before led me to throw in the towel BUT this time it’s different.  This time, I’m not on a diet.  This time I am simply changing the way I eat and feed my family.  This time I don’t feel resentful of all the things I’m not eating or can’t touch because I feel better.  I have more energy and don’t feel so lethargic.  That alone tells me I’m on the right track.  I also have come to realize that those first 6 lbs came off using a “diet” so the fact that I went off of said “diet” normally would mean that the loss would have already come back by now.  Last week I went to the grocery store and stuck to the outer edges – Fruits, veggies, meats, dairy, etc. – and bypassed all of the center aisles full of the convenience items with ingredients I couldn’t read much less know what they were!  (Amazing how much more quickly I can get my shopping done this way.) I also discovered the “bulk foods” section in my HEB grocery store.  There are so many different grains here it’s amazing.  Picked up some Quinoa and although I haven’t a clue what to do with it, that’s one of my goals this week.  I’ve gotten a number of lovely recipes from my sistas and am excited.  I also discovered Almond Milk which is lovely in my cereal and satisfies my craving for a glass of milk without as many calories.  I’ve also been tracking my calories on Sparkepeople when I can.  I continue to be amazed at how much less I absent mindedly eat when I know I have to track it!

As for exercise, I managed to fit 90 min of strength training for my #Mamaguns Buff ‘N’ Tuff Challenge, 90 min of cardio and the first 2 days of my 200 situps challenge that I’m doing with Lorrie (@cuteangel79 ) into my already busy week.  Although I met the minimums, 2 things bothered me about my exercise.  (1) I felt like it was a chore most of the time and (2) I didn’t really push myself so I know I didn’t get everything out of it that I wanted.  Both are attitude adjustments and this leads to another one of my weekly goals.

I did get my water intake up and haven’t had any sodas in 2 weeks!!! And I’m getting my fiber in as well – 1 week of that.  After the first few days of added fiber, my body was revolting but stuck with it and now we are back on track.

So all in all, I see it as a successful week with some areas that I can work on this week.  The scale may not have moved but I feel great.  I don’t feel sluggish, tired or bloated so I have to be patient while my body figures out what the heck I’m doing to it!

Goals for this week:

(1)   Continued water and Fiber monitoring

(2)   Change my attitude towards my exercise to a more positive one – Act “as if” right?

(3)   Push myself a little more each day

(4)   Eat at least 1 “new” food each week to keep me from getting into a rut – something I’ve never tried before.

I’m also SUPER jealous of Rachel Lacy (@Rachel_L), Lisa Johnson (@ljenator) and Leah (@bookieboo) who get to run through Central Park on Tuesday in New York City with Jared from SUBWAY for the  #commit2fit media challenge!!  How Awesome is that?!?!  Also loving that Subway is this week’s sponser.  So appropriate!

A HUGE Congrats to Pamela, our SOW.  Can I just say that I love your comments on my blogs.  They are always so thoughtful and inspiring!  That’s it for now as I have the rest of a crazy day ahead of me but it’s shaping up to be a great Monday!

  1. OMG – good for you! I love the change in your attitude. Diets suck! I’m just saying. Small changes are the way to go because you begin to build different habits. You are doing such a great job! Good luck this week.

  2. You know, I struggled a lot in the first month I joined mamavation because I didn’t lose a single pound and I was so tired and frustrated. Okay, so I still haven’t lost any weight yet, but I’m hoping to change that. Hope you have a great week!

  3. Just hearing that you feel more energized and shopped the good sections in the grocery store is such a testament to the changes you’re making in your life and your changing attitudes towards healthy living. The scale isn’t always accurate but feeling good tells you that you’re on the right track 🙂

ps giddy-up for your mamaguns workouts this week girl!! Yahoo 🙂

  4. HUGS!! I totally get your frustration with the scale not moving in the direction you want… or moving at ALL! HUGS Remember, the number on the scale does NOT define you! You are doing what you need to do… and hvae excellent goals! Keep moving forward… keep pressing toward your goal and you WILL see success!

    HUGS

  5. Yayyy! I’m so happy for you – it’s such a big step to get past the numbers hurdle and be comfortable with just eating well instead of dieting. Congratulations and keep on!

  6. I’m new to Mamavation and stopping by on my first carnival.

  7. I agree with mkopp you need to do measurements thanks for joining me on the situp challenge it means alot to me to have the support. i redid my situps and feel better doing the situps differently than basic style.

    have a great week hugs

  8. You are so right in how an attitude adjustment makes a huge difference, I love your attitude goal this week in addition to your water + fiber. Have a great week, stay positive, work on your baby steps, and develop a habit of consistency. That is all that any of us can do.

  9. Great job at the grocery store! Also 3 weeks is great, wait until you see how you feel at 6weeks! Eating right and exercise is so different from dieting. The progress can sometimes seem slow when looking at the scale but BIG things are happening inside the body! Are you taking measurements? Sometimes that can be reassuring when the scale is being mean and ugly. So proud you are sticking with it! Stay positive, YOU CAN DO THIS!
