Hi Guys…
Remember me?
I know… I know… I have been neglecting you for a while. My bad. But? I’m back and ready to get back to basics and that means posting again and sharing some great stuff with all 3 of you who read this little corner of the world.
I do love Mamavation Monday… it’s a chance to start the week off with a bang and really take a few minutes at least to focus on me and what is REALLY important.
On this quest for healthy living, I’ve come up with an epiphany of sorts… Life really was simpler before I was educated… Seriously. Before Mamavation and the community that is like family, I believed that healthy eating was as simple as NOT going to Taco Hell or McFatty’s… Healthy living meant cooking your own meals at home… period. end of story… then, I REALLY started looking at what “healthy” meant…
I saw this image over at the Farmer’s Pal Facebook Page…
;
and at first glance… it totally makes sense… right? I love the theory that I stick to food – real honest to goodness food for my family and I… food that I can totally explain where it comes from and pronounce instead of all of the chemically created “food-stuff” … When grocery shopping with my boys, We stick to the outskirts of the store for the most part – fruits, veggies, meats, dairy… etc. And now, I’m not 100% sure that I’m doing enough to get and stay healthy because NOW we have to worry about GMOs… and I don’t claim to know a whole lot of ANYTHING about GMOs… except that my ex-father-in-law was a corn geneticist for a company that shall remain nameless. hey people – I said ex – stop the stoning… AND I know that genetically modified ANYTHING makes me scratch my head and wonder WHY… and more importantly, how do we REALLY know?
For example… Did you know that
since GMOs were approved by the FDA in the early 90s and entered our food supply we have seen some dramatic increases in diseases in children. According to Healthy Child Healthy World, we have had a 400% increase in food allergies, 300% increase in asthma, 400% increase in ADHD and a 1,500% increase in autism. I don’t like those statistics.
And I think the scariest part of all is that companies aren’t required to discloses their science experiments… So, add that to the list of things I’m slowly learning more about… and if you are interested in learning more about GMOs, and how they affect you, join us tonight for Mamavation TV where we’ll be talking GMOs… PLUS – for those of you on twitter, there is a twitter party all about GMOs coming up as well.
Kinda makes me wanna become Jeremiah Johnson… and now, I sound just like my mother…
This post is sponsored by Get Unreal and hosted by Mamavation – a community dedicated to obesity prevention & weight loss for women and I’m writing this to be entered into a giveaway
I have said before, it’s crazy how many more food allergies and how often kids are being diagnosed these days, and I bet most of it is food related!
I was talking with a Dr. last week at dinner about the sheer number of ailments that can be caused by the foods we eat… seriously scary stuff
that is just amazing that they can put GMO’s out on the market without our permission. Or at least label it.
I know… and from what I understand, corn is the biggest offender and just as Megan – Corn is in EVERYTHING…
I guess this makes me number 3 😉 It is comforting to know that there are not GMOs in organic food.
thank goodness for SOME things 🙂
Eek! GMOs are scary! I was definitely way “healthier” in my head before I was educated, too!
funny how we can convince ourselves what “healthy” is before we have the facts…
Interesting information – thanks for sharing! Clean eating is definitely a necessity.
a necessity yes, but totally can make me go bonkers while I figure it all out lol
One of the 3 readers reporting in…. I agree it was alot easier when I didn’t know anything and could use the whole ignorance is bliss but now I know better and I think in the long run our boys and our bodies will be much happier with us!
right? One thing is fo sho… once your eyes have been opened, there is no turning back…
