I have a few friends that are traveling through the dark abyss I’ve been in before… a few times… in the moment, it sucks. You get tired of people asking if you are ok. You get tired of lying through your teeth when replying “Oh, I’m Fine” when you are not. You get angry with yourself for breaking down in tears at the least opportune times and pissed at everyone who is tired of the darkness and encourages you to just get over it.
Your friends start to fade – often because they still don’t know what to say and are terrified of saying the wrong thing so you are left alone with your thoughts… that aren’t always positive. Your mind can be your best friend or worst enemy…
Often we find ourselves in spots where we have no idea what tomorrow looks like and that’s ok. It’s ok to just put one foot in front of the other. It’s ok to take each moment as it comes without a real plan for big changes. It’s ok if the biggest accomplishment you have in a day is changing out of your pajamas.
Change can be hard to face when you are looking at the unknown… how will I find myself? How will I make ends meet? How can I find my happy again? Will I ever feel whole?
These are questions that only you can answer and maybe not even right now, but I know this… don’t EVER say that your feelings aren’t right. Feel what you need until it no longer serves a purpose. Learn to accept your fear and sadness without letting it define you. Take time every single day to so something that fills your heart with joy – take a bubble bath, paint your nails, go for a walk, bake cookies, take a nap, read a book, surf the net, whatever. YOU are important. You matter. And wherever you are in this moment in time, is exactly where you need to be to grow to your highest potential.
I promise, light is ahead. even if it doesn’t seem like it right now.
When you look around in Nature, lots of things emerge from darkness to shine… caterpillars to butterflies… coal to diamonds… sand into pearls. We are no different. We need change and adversity sometimes to grow into our fullest potential… and our fullest potential is beautiful.
