In case you haven’t heard – and if you haven’t, go ahead and follow me on twitter and facebook to stay current 🙂 – Fitcation 2011 was a tremendous success… at least in my book.  The best part for me HAD to be meeting so many wonderful women that I’ve gotten to know through the twitterverse over the last almost-year.  The bittersweet part was that not everyone I adore could make it… so start planning now because I guarantee this will be happening again!  I know I’ve said it a million times, but I have to say THANK YOU again to Leah (aka bookieboo) for making this possible and to Lori (aka gutimom) for all she did in the planning process.
We started Fitcation unofficially with the Austin Ghost tour Thursday night.  I have to say a huge thank you to them for adding an unscheduled tour to accommodate our group and our needs.  The Austin Ghost tour has been featured on the Biography channel as well as other various media outlets.  It was interesting to see the city in a different way.
During this fun-filled weekend, we were fortunate enough to stay at the Wyndham Garden hotel and can I just say that they were FANTASTIC!!!  Every time we needed assistance, they were right there with a smile.  I could not have asked for better customer service.  Even on things non-hotel related they went above and beyond the call of duty.
The rooms themselves were clean and comfortable and the meeting space was set up perfectly for our unique needs.  The staff was overly friendly and continued to offer a helping hand when we least expected it.  The location is perfect – very close to downtown – only a $10 taxi cab or so.  In short, if you are planning a trip to Austin, THIS is the hotel I’d recommend.
Friday morning, Leah and I went to relax at Embellish nails where we were both treated to an AMAZING facial… I wanted to stay there forever as Kathy expertly sloughed off the stress and worry and replaced it with a healthy glow.  She even commented that it was obvious to her that I definitely drink my water – Thanks to my Mamavation gals.  it was more than a facial though… she massaged my neck and shoulders in the process and even my feet.  I have never felt so pampered in all my life!
Friday afternoon, Fitcation officially kicked off.  We started with a strength training workout with the infamous Mizfit Online.  She is R-E-M-A-R-K-A-B-L-E!  The Tornado joined us and was such a delight as she went through the strength training with us.  I loved that she was cheering us on and was reminding us all why we are living healthy… for our families.  After the strength training, Kia led me (and the others of course) through my very first yoga experience and I must say I was NOT disappointed… except in the fact that I have been missing out for so long!
Friday night we went to the Cap City Comedy Club for a few laughs after dinner and I have to be honest… I’ve been to a few shows there that seemed… less than funny, but the night we went, we were fortunate enough to see Steve Rannazzisi and he had everyone laughing as far as I could tell.  It was a great night!
The next day started off bright and early with a trip to the Farmer’s market. This was a real treat for me because I had NO IDEA that there was such a great market in my own backyard!  I can assure you that this will not be my last visit there.
After the Farmer’s market, we headed on over to Castle Hill Fitness where we got our booties kicked with a community Zumba class.  It was an hour long intense cardio workout but was so much fun that it didn’t seem like an hour!  Yes, I will be going back for more
punishment fun very soon!  And the fact that they offer both memberships and community class rates works perfectly for me!  My schedule is so busy that I can go grab a class when I’m free without feeling like I’m wasting money because I miss a few.  I LOVE that!
Saturday night was a FANTASTIC meal prepared by Chef Adrian Giovanelli over at the Roaring Fork.  This restaurant is one that my husband and I have enjoyed before and I was happy that the meal was as fantastic as I had remembered.  I have 2 words for you… Watermelon Salad.  It was amazingly fresh and beautifully prepared… I think that was my favorite part of the meal, but there was also the campfire grilled salmon and the margarita tart that were exquisite!
The Sunday morning Yoga with our very own green Yogini Kia was exactly what we needed after a jam packed weekend.  I can not thank her enough!
Needless to say, you MUST start planning now because you won’t want to miss out on the adventures next year.  Somethings can’t be blogged about… either because of pacts that have been made or because it would lose something in the translation.  Besides… What happens in Austin, Stays in Austin!  So, who’s ready for Fitcation ’12?
