Ch-Ch-Ch-Changes…. #Mamavation Monday

Wow… what a great topic for this week’s Mamavation Monday.

Changes… Specifically,

“How are you planning to change up your workout as summer ends?”

but I’ll get to that in a minute….

If you are a frequent reader here at Slightly Off Kilter, you have witnessed me feebly attempt to makeover this blog a number of times… and I finally decided that there are a number of things I’m really good at … and redesigning my blog was NOT one of them… So I enlisted help.  Because one of the things I’ve learned over the years is that asking for help is hard but necessary.  Rita was UH-MAZING… Seriously.  And after dealing with no less than 67 emails back and forth, she should be nominated for sainthood.  If you are considering a blog makeover or even just need new Graphic design or hosting for your blog, head on over to Blog Genie and start the very rewarding conversation.  It was almost as if Rita reached into the dark recesses of my brain and plucked out the best parts.

Now you may be thinking “HEY!  This is way too dark, graphic, gothic, tatoo-y to really represent you…”  yeah, not really… Part of the reason that I picked the name “Slightly Off Kilter” was because I’m not exactly typical.  I’m not what you expect.  I’m equally comfortable in an evening gown or covered in grease from working on the car.  I come across as upbeat and fun, but deep down, there is often more darkness than you’d ever realize.

There are also some unique elements I wanted to ensure showed up because they represent me so much… specifically, hummingbirds and dragonflies and I’ll explain that in more detail in a future post, but for now, explore to your hearts desire to truly enjoy the brilliance.  And, if I’m lucky enough to have a button on your blog, would you do me a HUGE favor and go ahead and grab the new beautiful button from the sidebar?  I’d appreciate it.

Ok, so aside from the beautiful blog changes… How do my workouts change now that summer is over?  For most of you, this may sound strange, but with then end of summer (whenever the heck THAT happens) that means more outdoor workouts.  It is just too hot for outdoor runs in these 100+ days and honestly I’ve lost count of how many we’ve had here in Texas.

Monday ends the official 2-week challenge that Mark (aka @mrbookieboo) put together and that means and honestly, this was a bit out of my comfort zone.  I’ve done Gruntstyle workouts before, so there were very little surprises, but I’m looking forward to getting back to my EAS Active routine.  I know it’s a mental thing for me… but here’s the thing.  I am NOT – repeat NOT – a morning person.  I’m a night owl.  It is not unusual for me to do my workout at midnight after a very VERY full day.  It has been very hard for me to get pumped and excited about doing a gruntstyle workout, whereas the EAS Active is more “fun” so it’s easier to get started.  And after all, isn’t it all about getting started?

Speaking of changes, you know what would be a great way to inspire your own changes?  Have you considered applying to be the Next Mamavation Mom/Couple?  That’s right folks… this campaign is ALL about couples so bribe convince your spouse to jump on board with you and apply!  Applications close September 28th and the campaign officially starts on October 10th. (Campaign 10 – starts 10/10… cute huh?)

Tomorrow on Mamavation TV will be some AMAZING people… the Top 5 Inspirational Healthy Tweeps.  Seriously if you are not following them on Twitter, you absolutely SHOULD BE.  And while I adore them all, Tony (@theantijared) always brings a smile to my face and a tear to my eye… sometimes at the same time.  I don’t think he even knows this but when I’m struggling to stay on track, I go read his blog because he is beyond inspirational… he’s real.  That’s not to take anything away from the others who are definitely deserving of being in the Top 5.  They are all amazing people and even if I’m WAYYYYYYYYYYY down on the list, I’m honored to share space with them.

So, I’m curious… what are your thoughts on the blog changes, my workout changes, or just about anything else.  let me know in the comments below 🙂

  1. Congrats on the blog design. Looks like you updates awhile ago, but it looks great!

  2. Love the Ch ch ch changes so far on your blog. I am also trying to find a look for my blog as well. I am a night owl too but i am trying to adjust and do more in the am so that i can spend more time with the little one when i get home in the evenings. Also i started to fun outside now so i like to do it in the morning. It is really nice to meet you! enjoy tweeting with you Shelley

  3. I could have sworn I commented on this. Apparently not.

Jury is still out on how I feel about your new header….but the blog colour scheme is lovely. 🙂

  4. Nice blog redesign. I look forward to cheering you on with your 1/2 mary coming up. Ch-ch-ch-changes.

  5. I love change…on others! Lol. No, I love the blog and will grab your button. 🙂

Yes, The challenge has been hard for me to complete. I have, but have done them late at night after others have finished. I am in the chase group with the gentle reminder not to finish. I do enjoy the EASactive… but am falling in love with the dance games for cardio. I just got Zumba and Just Dance has some new options.

I suspect there is some darkness in all of us. We just choose how to show it or hide it. Have a great week. For the record, I think the design looks sophisticated and elegant. Rock it!

  6. I love love love love love this new blog design. Except, where is my oooh shiney section? Shoot! I won’t have that to use as an excuse as to why I’m behind anymore. I just have to tell you that driving home today I was thinking, “Oooh..look how Shelley I am today. I have my cup from Biggby coffee (my birthday treat), my healthy lunch/dinner, power tools and pretty nail polish.” I love you…lol!

  7. Love the new design – it is really cool and I so got to do the same. Have an awesome week

  8. You’re an absolute delight and this site was beyond fun to work on. It’s the goal to make everyone this happy so I’m glad we succeed!

  9. Love the new look! I am actually wanting to change my blog up. I will definitely give Blog Genie a look!

You work out at midnight? You are a rock star!

  10. Shelley I love the new look!!!

I still have yet to figure out how you can do those late night workouts. When I workout late I feel like I am dragging through the workout.

A big congratulations on getting your post up early 😉 Have an amazing week!

  11. Thank you very much now I have that song stuck in my head… CH.Ch.Ch changes…. LOL!

I like the new blog design!

I am so jealous that you can do work outs at night… I get a burst of energy around 4pm and then I’m just done. If I don’t get up and do it chances are it won’t get done.

I’ll try to remember to switch your button out one day this week.

  12. I love the new blog. The colors are gorgeous and eye catching. Your social media buttons are right up top and easy to find.

  13. Love the colors!

I do gruntstyle challenge stuff at pt, do it hasn’t been much of a shocker to me. I’m just glad I can finally do most of the moves, haha!
I like the accountability of the challenge. Mark is awesome, like your own personal cheer squad.
You rock! Have fun getting back to your favorite workouts.

  14. Love the new blog! It’s pretty!! And I am with you on the Gruntstyle workouts….they are a challenge to get started. But man, do I feel accomplished afterwards. 🙂
