The Friend I want to be…

Friendship is often a common theme here… As is the process of discovering who I am and who I want to be. Both are merging beautifully in today’s prompt – the kick off of the October Axis of Ineptitude blogging challenge.

Over the last decade or so, I’ve not only made new friends who color my world beautifully, but also ended friendships and relationships that no longer match up to the person I am and want to be. That’s life though right? Keeping the things, people, ideas that work and removing the things, people and ideas that no longer serve us.

As I thought about this prompt, I’d be lying if I said it wasn’t, in part at least, a tribute to my dear friend Evin over at Food Good Laundry Bad as today is her birthday and she has quickly become one of my best friends… and a mirror in many ways for the person and friend I want to be. I consider myself extremely blessed not only by her friendship but the other mirrors in my life that show me the qualities in a friendship I hope I exemplify.

The friendship I share with Evin is a beautiful beautiful thing… for those on the outside looking in, you’d think that we’ve known each other since birth.  Not true, but it is like our souls have.

Evin is the kind of friend you can text when you are feeling your most crazy and without skipping a beat, she’ll know whether to talk you off the ledge or grab your hand and dive on into the pool of insanity.

Evin is the kind of friend who will silently judge you unless you need to hear some truth and then without holding back she will unleash the honesty – whether you like it or not.

Evin is the kind of friend who you can talk about anything with… poop, puke, relationships, kids homework, random crazy thoughts that pop into my sick and twisted mind.

Evin is the kind of friend that understands busy schedules and knows that I’m not ever ignoring her… but will also ask for what she needs when she needs it.

Evin is the kind of friend who I can pass the time with just sitting on a couch doing nothing and have as much fun as when we get all gussied up and head out for a night on the town.

Evin is the kind of friend where I can be completely myself and not worry what she thinks…

Evin is the kind of friend who will call bullshit when I’m all over here pretending not to care about something that I clearly care way too much about.  And then, behind closed doors or the privacy of a text, we can be completely honest about what we REALLY feel instead of the strong mask we wear for the world.

Evin is the kind of friend who I never have to explain my sarcasm too… which a lot of you assume I’m always sarcastic but she also gets when I’m being totally serious and I love that shit.

Evin and I share the same sick and twisted sense of humor.  Being able to laugh with another person is sometimes the best medicine there is.

In short, Evin is the kind of friend I want to be.  She’s smart and funny and talented and has a huge heart of gold.  Happy Birthday to my sister from another mister.  So many hugs and so many years to come of laughing at the stupid shit we think say and do!
