Mamavation Monday – 12/20/2010

So, first things first – if you haven’t noticed, I’ve moved my blog!  It’s still a work in progress, but isn’t everything?  Consider this my “Change of Address” notification – if you have bookmarked my old blog or subscribed to the RSS feed, please update your info so you don’t miss any of the gems here.  Also, new blog = new button so please feel free to grab that too!  I’d love any feedback you have on the new digs too – your comments are always welcome!

Last week was a blur and to be honest with myself this one will too.  December 26th is when I anticipate a break – Does it make me a bad mom to say that I’m REALLY looking forward to Dec 26-Jan 3?  The boys will be with their dad, I’ll be off work (because the company I work for closes down that week) and the Hubs will be working.  That means for an entire week it’s just ME (and the cat and the dog but they can’t talk back or fight over toys or complain that they are bored). Am I selfish for really looking forward to all the things I’m going to do that week?  I have a ton of projects that I want to accomplish and I just can’t get them done right now – and in Jan, the chaos starts over again with another semester of school, back to work, rejoining the normal schedule with the kiddos.  But for that one week – bliss.

Please don’t take that the wrong way – I ADORE my children – they have made my life better than I ever thought possible.  We have been having a BLAST this weekend and the rest of the week, while busy, will be filled with lots of fun quality bonding time – and family fitness.

This weekend we made phonebook Christmas Trees which was something that kept everyone busy for quite a while and recycled those pesky phone books that get delivered at least twice a year even though I can’t recall the last time I actually USED a phonebook for its intended purpose.  If you are looking for a fun project to do with the kids, check out that link for the “how-to” behind it.

We also began the baking – cake balls were this weekend, pumpkin bread and gingerbread cookies this week.  They boys are such a big help in the kitchen and I love building these memories with them.

I still have about a thousand things left to do before EVERYONE comes over to our house for Christmas dinner but we have a plan for that so while every moment will be filled with the normal hustle and bustle, my sanity should remain intact.

I did avoid several ‘emotional eating’ moments this past week and kept a close eye on my portion sizes which was good because with my sprained ankle my ability to exercise was extremely limited.  Kept focused on my water and fiber intake as well.  All things considered, I feel really good about the week.  I go back to the Dr. tomorrow to recheck my ankle to see when I can resume my C25K and EA Sports Active – both I’m excited to begin again!!!

Congrats to our Sista of the Week – Christi (@Christidarty) who is also in the running for the next Mamavation Mom!  Check back tomorrow for a guest blog by Christi where you can learn more about who she is and why she wants needs this so badly!  If you’d like to do a guest post here, please let me know! I’m so proud of ALL of the Applicants! Check out their videos if you haven’t already and PLEASE remember to tweet your support!

This week’s blogging carnival is sponsored by @tribalenergy4u. Two winners of the carnival will win a Tribal Energy Cardio DVD. Mention Tribal Energy Cardio, and link back to their site in your post.

Oh Yeah – and a scale pic – No change this week but considering I didn’t get in the amount of fitness I wanted to, I’m calling it a victory!   hopefully this week the Doc will give me the ‘go-ahead’ to get back on my regular routine.  Fingers Crossed!

Have a GREAT week everyone!  Not sure if I’ll be able to make it to Mamavation TV tonight, but if I can break away I’ll see you there!

  1. so proud of you for avoiding emotional eating and its not wanting to want peaceful time i like getting away for work cause its taking me out of my home enviroment

    have an awesome christmas

  2. I LOVE your new digs! And no – you aren’t a bad mom, we all feel that way occasionally. My older two go to daycare on Tuesdays and Thursdays even though I’m home 🙂

    Have a very Merry Christmas!

  3. I am always so grateful for your support. You are amazing and your posts always reflect that! (I have tears, can I chalk that up to hormones, lol)

I am so excited you get a week to yourself, I would love to have that. I got a day after the roads closed and the kids had to stay at grandma’s house…It was heaven!

I have never thought of phone book trees, what a great idea. In 4th grade we made reader’s digest trees.

Hope you are fully recovered soon so you can get back to your regularly scheduled program (hehe). Way to go on catching yourself before eating any emotions.

Merry Christmas, enjoy your lutefisk (sp?) with the family.

  4. Love the new design and new address!

You need time for yourself to recharge. I was reminded of that this past week by my therapist. No one is happy if mom’s not happy.

Merry Christmas! and enjoy your vacation.

  5. I like the new digs!! Congrats on the move!

I understand what you are saying about looking forward to the time alone next week. So awesome that you have a plan to get you thru until then. And I’ve got my fingers crossed that the doc gives you a good word!

    Hugs!

  6. Hey Shelley,

    Love the new blog. 😉

As for the kiddos… I feel ya girl… I’d totally look forward to that week as well! Not that we don’t love our babies, but you know sometimes a week “off” is the best thing to enable us moms to be able to continue showing our kiddos the love we have for them without the frustration of “OMG what are you fighting for now” in our heads 24/7.

Congrats on holding steady this week! It’s a big step sometimes, I mean if I was planning a meal for almost 50 people I would have gained a TON of weight this past week! Besides having to go on sanity pills of some sort.

You are a super hero in my book!

    Hugs for this week!

    T

  7. @ChristiDarty says

Love the new blog! I hope that the Doc will let you get back to your new life soon.

Thanks for the props for SOTW and everything else! Love you Shelley!

  8. Oooooooo….I love the new digs! I feel all warm and cuddly here 🙂

Enjoy your week off. Nothing selfish about craving some quiet time for you. I think you’ve more than earned it!

    Happy Holidays!

  9. Love the tree. I can trying making it with my 3yo. It looks so good. I snicked few chocolates out of the box my husband left on the counter top. Bad Lena, bad! The holiday is for us to enjoy (but not over enjoy), so have fun and enjoy food. XOXO

  10. I love the blog name and want to be the first (at least on this post?) to congratulate you on the move!

No, I don’t think you are a bad Mom by any means… Moms need breaks, too! I think the holidays put an added amount of pressure and stress on us. My DH doesn’t understand why I have been up at 7 and to bed at 2am..and frantic, to boot! I am trying to create special memories for the kiddos but it is tiring.

I hope you are able to get back to your workouts soon! Have a Happy Holiday season and enjoy your break on 12/26. *hugs*
